Physique Canada has a tier system that gives competitors the opportunity to compete in classes based on their level of experience and calibre. All competitors must be 18 years of age or older to compete at a Physique Canada event.

Masters

Physique Canada does offer a Masters class, but it is outside of the tier system. Masters is open to all competitors of all levels that are 40 years and older and is available in the following divisions:

  • Men's bodybuilding
  • Women's muscular physique
  • Women's athletic physique

Tier 3

Physique Canada’s Tier 3 level is the entry level and is geared towards novice competitors. Competitors who have not placed in the top 3 of a Tier 3 contest or in the top 3 of any class in any other organization are eligible to compete in Tier 3. The following competitive divisions are available within Tier 3 events:

  • Men's bodybuilding: Lightweight and Heavyweight
  • Women's muscular physique: Short and Tall
  • Women's athletic physique: Short and Tall

Tier 2

Physique Canada’s Tier 2 level is for experienced competitors. Competitors who have placed in the top 3 of a Tier 3 contest or top 3 of any class in any other organization must compete in Tier 2. The following competitive divisions are available within Tier 2 events:

  • Men's bodybuilding: Lightweight and Heavyweight
  • Women's muscular physique: Short and Tall
  • Women's athletic physique: Short and Tall

Tier 1 Pro

Physique Canada’s Tier 1 level is for Pro competitors. Top 3 placings of Tier 2 contests are permitted to advance to the Tier 1 level. The following competitive divisions are available within Tier 1 events:

  • Men's bodybuilding: Open
  • Women's muscular physique: Open
  • Women's athletic physique: Open

Please note that there is no requirement to compete within a set timeframe to maintain eligibility to participate in any of Physique Canada’s tier levels.

International Affiliation

Physique Canada is affiliated with the WBPF (World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation). Our top athletes can represent Canada at the Mr. Universe contest that brings together competitors from over 90 countries.

  • For brand-new competitors or those who have not placed in Physique Canada Tier 3 or in another organization. All Tier 3 competitions subject to drug testing.

  • Over Age 40
  • Resides outside the tier system. Competitors can compete in Masters even if they are competing in Tier 1, 2, or 3 classes. All Masters competitions subject to drug testing.
